| "The vast majority of salmon sold in this country comes from salmon farms. The most common is Atlantic salmon plopped into the Pacific Ocean in farms near Seattle, Washington. An eight-ounce slice of farmed salmon has twenty-one grams of fat, compared to only fourteen grams in ocean-caught salmon. The extra fat is not the healthy omega-3 fatty acid-enriched fish oils, but rather the omega-6 fatty acids from the grains and other feed these fish get from automated feeders." - David Heber, M.D., Ph.D., What Color is Your Diet? | "For a change of pace, substitute pieces of smoked salmon or mushrooms instead of the pepperoni. This omelet, plus coffee or tea, is your breakfast. If you drink tea, choose green tea.
Lunch could consist of canned tuna fish or salmon with low-fat mayonnaise and cucumber slices on top of a slice of lettuce. For a change of pace, eat four to six slices of low-fat sliced cheese with mustard, or go with the tofu cheese. Use nuts as snacks if you get hungry between lunch and dinner. Dinner requires a bit more work in that you will have to prepare the main dish—either chicken, turkey, or fish." - Benjamin H. Avoid farmed salmon, which has a high PCB content, and high-mercury fish such as king mackerel, marlin, orange roughy, shark, swordfish, tilefish, and tuna. Essential fatty acids are also available in omega-3 rich eggs and flaxseed, as well as in supplement form. A growing number of studies show omega-3 to be beneficial in the prevention and management of Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and rheumatoid arthritis." - Donna Jackson Nakazawa, The Autoimmune Epidemic (Get the book.)

Pluots contain more plum that apricot, but the Zaigers have also bred a series of interspecifics that are more apricot than plum, called apriums. He's also created peach-plums, spicy nectaplums and peacharines. | "For me, it was salmon. Yep, my mom had made a beautiful salmon dinner, but because I ate it during one of my more memorable childhood sicknesses, I never wanted to see that pink-colored fish again.
It wasn't until I was in my late 20s that I had the courage to once again try some salmon. I expected to become instantly ill, as I had when I was 7 or 8 years old. Boy, was I shocked to find out that I loved the taste of salmon! It didn't nauseate me; it brought me pleasure! Today, salmon is one of my favorite foods.

As any fan can tell you, salmon has a wonderful taste of its own that should be enhanced but never overpowered. Simple approaches are best-and make for easy preparation. Some possibilities:
• Brush salmon steaks with a lemon vinaigrette and grill. Drizzle with more vinaigrette before serving and garnish with orange sections.
• Poach salmon fillets, then break into chunks with your fingers. Toss gently with pasta, dill, and ricotta.
• Serve cold poached salmon with a variety of mustards, thinly sliced purple onions, and crusty bread." - Patricia Hausman & Judith Benn Hurley, The Healing Foods: The Ultimate Authority on the Curative Power of Nutrition (Get the book.)
| "Krill are little crustaceans that look like shrimp and provide food for everything from salmon to blue whales. And they're one of the most nutritious creatures in the sea. Not only are they loaded with the aforementioned astaxanthin, but they're a great source of valuable omega-3 fatty acids. Krill oil is increasingly being researched for its health benefits (see below), and one of the nicest of those benefits is the effect krill oil has on premenstrual syndrome (PMS)." - Jonny Bowden, Ph.D., C.N.S., The Most Effective Natural Cures on Earth: The Surprising, Unbiased Truth about What Treatments Work and Why (Get the book.)

High-quality fish oil supplements are an excellent way to get the many health benefits of the omega-3 fatty acids (see page 299).
Other ingredients you may see on the ingredients list in a glucosamine-chondroitin formula may include sea cucumber (Cucumaria frondosa), grape seed extract, boswellia, and turmeric, all of which have varying degrees of anti-inflammatory action." - Jonny Bowden, Ph.D., C.N.S., The Most Effective Natural Cures on Earth: The Surprising, Unbiased Truth about What Treatments Work and Why (Get the book.)
"If there was one supplement I could mandate for the entire population of the world—with the possible exception of those who live in Greenland and eat salmon all day—it would unquestionably be omega-3s (or a related supplement called essential fatty acids).
A Primer on Fats
The terms describing fats—saturated, unsaturated, omega-3, omega-6, and the like—simply have to do with their molecular arrangements. Other fats have important functions in our bodies, including omega-6s, omega-9s, and even, believe it or not, saturated fats. The body needs them all for various purposes."

| "After several improvements, this mussel extract was tested against salmon oil, MaxEPA, evening primrose oil and flax oil. It was found to be 150 times more potent than MaxEPA, 240 times more potent than Norwegian salmon oil, 300 times more potent than evening primrose oil and 3,900 times more potent than flax oil in treating inflammation of joints.
Lyprinol was then found to be slightly more effective in treating inflammation than indomethecin or ibuprofen.
Further research has revealed that lyprinol inhibits the 5 lipooxygenase pathway of prostaglandins." - James A. Howenstine, A Physician's Guide to Natural Health Products That Work (Get the book.)
| "Cold-pressed sunflower, safflower, linseed and soya oils, salmon, herring and mackerel or fish oil supplements and evening primrose oil are good dietary sources of EFAs. We recommend cold-pressed oils only, as oils not labelled as refined in this way will have been extracted from their source using chemicals and are not as healthy for you. Add a selection of haricot, kidney or soya beans to your diet, and nuts such as walnuts, almonds and brazil nuts (peanuts and cashews are not as useful), for a varied combination of EFAs in your diet." - Dr Ron Roberts, Asthma Controlled Naturally: Techniques That Work (Get the book.)

ž n c diabetes, the importance of foods and supplements that are anti-inflammatory can't be overstated. | "Healthy food sources include Brussels sprouts, broccoli, peanut butter, and salmon.
Choline supplements are available as choline chloride and choline bitartrate. Lecithin is a good source of choline and contains 13 percent choline. Commercially available lecithin products may only contain 3-12 percent of choline because they often contain impure lecithin. The tolerable upper intake level for choline is 3.5 grams per day for adults. Very high levels of choline can disturb the neurotransmitter balance in the brain." - Dr. Steve Blake, Vitamins and Minerals Demystified (Get the book.)

| "Grizzlies and Alaskan brown bears are well-known salmon eaters. And of course, anyone who has read Winnie the Pooh knows that many bears relish honey.
Other than the ants and grubs and rodents, the bear diet sounds a lot like the typical American diet; and, it's for this reason that many people conclude that the natutal human diet is that of an omnivore. But remember, we're stepping back and taking a look physiologically where we fit in, and on those counts, we don't match the omnivores.

Botanicals
Flavonoids. Flavonoids are a group of compounds found in many fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and numerous medicinal plants. Over 4,000 different flavonoids have been identified in foods and plants. Quercetin, rutin, catechin, and hesperidin are the most frequently used in medicine. Flavonoids inhibit the peroxidation of lipids by acting as free radical scavengers." - Tori Hudson, N.D., Women's Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine: Alternative Therapies and Integrative Medicine for Total Health and Wellness (Get the book.)

People lived in small bands of a few families that changed almost daily. A man and his son would die in a hunting accident, and his wife and younger children would join another band. Two brothers would quarrel, and one would simply move away to another camp." - Brian Fagan, Floods, Famines, and Emperors: El Nino and the Fate of Civilizations (Get the book.)
